I recently wrote about how much I love Portland and perhaps made it seem like I’m down on Columbus.
Don’t get me wrong. Columbus still has a lot of great stuff.
That’s why I call the city home.
Although it is not quite at the level of Portland, Columbus is making a lot of gains.
One area is the local food movement.
I had been dying to go to Knead Urban Diner ever since I got back to Columbus.
However, I knew this would be the type of meal I would want to share with a friend.
You know… so you can order A LOT more food.
Weekend brunch is always a great way to catch up with friends and enjoy the weekend.
It is also a good excuse to indulge.
If the food is local and organic, the calories don’t count, right?
Egg McJunkin Sandwich
I know I already wrote about the best breakfast sandwich ever, but this one is absolute perfection if you’re going for traditional.
The biscuit is perfect.
Fresh, soft, flakey. Buttery flavor.
Apple French Toast
What I loved most about this is that it is not too sweet.
It is actually a light dish. You can order it by the slice rather than a huge plate. So you can order more food!!
Frittata
Because the menu is based off of fresh, seasonal ingredients, the exact type of frittata varies. This one had Brussels sprouts. It sounded a bit weird to me, but it was a perfect ingredient.
I want to go back and try…
The place is actually famous for the MotherClucker Sandwich (fried buttermilk chicken, bacon, cheddar, roasted poblano chile, garlic aioli, and honey), so I have to go back and try that some time. And then there is the homemade cinnamon roll, huarache, and Blue Shroom Burger.

That’s right — local +organic = no calories! Everything at Knead looks really yummy. The map is very cool touch. I hope more restaurants will be taking a closer look at the local food movement.

I think the map really shows the restaurant’s commitment, and it makes it more fun to participate in the local food movement.

Can you explain the American obsessions of serving breakfasts with a huge pile of potatoes? I would always try to eat them all and would end up feeling sick after every brunch. Are they meant to just be a filler in case you’re still hungry?

Michael, I cannot explain this American breakfast tradition, but I completely understand what you’re saying. I personally try to avoid the potatoes because they are a lot of extra calories, but they taste so damn good that I cannot stop eating them if they are on the plate.
