During the train ride on my day trip to Tigre, we passed several cute little towns. One of those towns is San Isidro. I was told that it is has cobblestone streets, a large cathedral, and a weekend crafts market. I was looking for some new scenery for photography inspiration and wanted to get away from the fast-paced life in Buenos Aires for a few hours.
San Isidro did not disappoint.
I arrived on a Sunday afternoon, and the town was practically dead. I found my way to the central part of town.
Giant cathedral, check.
Crafts market, check.
I have to admit the quality of the items they were selling was much higher than many other markets and street fairs. If I wasn’t limited to a 45-liter backpack and a budget, I might have indulged in some souvenirs for friends and family.
Like these super cute hand-carved gnomes
Or these kaleidoscopes
But I was starving and had to eat before exploring more.
After a tasty burger in Tigre, I figured I’d try another in San Isidro. There is a fancy outdoor restaurant/ shopping area in front of the market.
Then I got lost.
But in a good way. I just started walking and winding my way up and down each block. San Isidro is definitely where the rich people live. The homes are stunning. The streets are spotless. I walked for hours.
I absolutely love the trees in Buenos Aires.
San Isidro has many large trees lining the streets, and the colors of the leaves are so brilliant this time of year.
What a beautiful neighborhood!! Nice pictures!

I was pretty impressed. The cathedrals in Latin America are usually not so grand.

Nice to see that you’re still having a good time on your travels, keep on taking great pictures and posting them on your blog, I love to see them!

I can do that

What a beautiful place. I love the inside of that cathedral. It would be awesome to walk for hours and explore a place like this.

I didn’t do any research before I went, so I had no idea what to expect. The walking for hours was definitely an in-the-moment decision

Loved the inside shot of the cathedral, beautiful.

I had gotten sort of burned out on churches. After a while, they just all look the same. But this one was surprising.

Good stuff!
I always like the smaller towns – just old, I guess.
It is a better way to get a feel for the country, see how the “normal” people live.
Nice pictures -looks like a great place to visit and spend some time.
Do they have hostels or pensions there?

I wouldn’t say the “normal” please live this way. More like the “rich” people that prefer to have larger homes in the suburbs away from the grittiness of Buenos Aires.
I did a quick search and it looks like there may be 1 or 2 hostels, but I don’t know about them. Definitely some pricier hotels though

San Isidro looks like a great day trip. I like getting “lost in a good way” in places, too — that’s how you find the nicest surprises sometimes. I like those kaleidoscopes — very colorful.

I loved the kaleidoscopes! I actually would have bought one if I didn’t have a 45-liter backpack to consider

I may still be here by the time you get here
Speaking of souvenirs, Argentina magnet please!
Trees look really nice! For some reason I always look at them everywhere I go 😀
They are so beautiful in BA. I have taken so many pictures of them.
Beautiful pictures! I’ve been living in San Isidro for three years now and I still love just wandering around the streets getting lost.
You are a very lucky lady. If I go back, I’ll let you know.
I didn’t do any day trips when I was in BA, for lack of time. But next time I go I’ll definitely check San Isidro out!
Nice photos, Stephanie, San Isidro looks very appealing. I like photographing trees, too. Especially in late autumn when they’re naked, and in black and white.
I did miss Fall this year back home, so seeing the leaves change color has been nice.
ha, nothing better than getting lost in a good way!
good to see a craft market with some unique stuff in it too. sometimes find its the generic stuff over and over again. love the kaleidoscopes. great photos as always!
Those pics are great. I really like the shots of the neighborhoods which give me an idea of how peaceful it is at this time of year.
It is amazing how different it is (aka tranquilo) just a few miles outside the city.
Ah, beautiful houses! It’s great to get lost sometimes, you discover areas off the beaten path. I once got lost in Venice and it was a great experience; spooky alleys though!
My favorite place I have ever gotten lost in was Prague. The tiny, winding cobblestone alleys are the best!
I remember seeing some massive private properties from the plane as we flew into BsAs on a connection to Iguazu – wondered where those were. Probably scattered in a few places, actually. I see you’re slowly but surely stepping out of the city to the rest of Argentina =) You’re going to love it!
Baby steps for me
And yes, there are some pretty fancy neighborhoods just a few miles away.
You do the coolest things. And take the best photos. Sigh…
When you’ve been in one place for 3 months, you start to find out about the lesser-traveled parts of the city.
Holy crap! I cannot believe I’ve lived here for 3 months!
We never made it out there … man! Too late now. It looks lovely!!!!
I have been very impressed with the close suburbs.
Sounds like a nice day trip and that burger looks tasty.
It actually was pretty tasty. Overpriced but tasty.
