I have spent so much time walking and staring up at the buildings. Every time I walked down a street, I discovered some new detail. Such a great city for architecture and photography. The Travel Chica recently posted..My Biggest Fear: Dental Work in the Third World
The architecture in Buenos Aires is so wonderful and so diverse. I should be taking MORE photos like this!! The Travel Chica recently posted..My Biggest Fear: Dental Work in the Third World
It reminds me of the facade of the ANZ Bank Building in Melbourne. The ANZ Bank Building is a skyscraper that was built on top of an old cathedral. It’s situated on the corner of Collins and Queen Streets in the CBD. Here’s a link I found from an Australian architectural forum website. http://www.walkingmelbourne.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=880 . Scroll down and you’ll find a dozen or so pictures complete with gargoyles so you know what I’m talking about.
Remember that post you put about ice cream in Buenos Aires? In today’s edition of The Age a local newspaper here they have a story on their website about the best places in Melbourne to get a gelati. The link for it is here: http://www.theage.com.au/entertainment/restaurants-and-bars/cold-comfort-20111124-1nwdx.html . I was thinking of putting under the ice cream story but I was afraid that you might miss so I posted it here. As for ice cream in Melbourne this time of year; it’s currently 12 degrees celcius as I write this and we had an inch of rain on average yesterday. Hardly summer weather considering it’s officially summer here on 1st December.
Thanks for sharing! Sorry about the weather there… hopefully, Melbourne gets its act together and realizes it is Summer. The Travel Chica recently posted..Steak Extravaganza: Restaurant Review – La Cabrera
It’s supposed to be 33 today but that didn’t stop me from waking up cold this morning about an hour ago. The weather here seems like it was this time last year; really weird for this time of year. A lot of rain and not much heat. Come February though things will heat up. February is the hottest month of the year for us. I hope you are well
The sky was not so interesting and was more of a distraction from the architecture details, so I went with B&W. The Travel Chica recently posted..My Biggest Fear: Dental Work in the Third World
What I am about to say might make me look really ignorant but I bet a lot of people are the same as me, I know where this place is only because of their soccer team! Cun recently posted..Stop your heartburn
Someone told me there are also statues on the top of a lot of the buildings. I keep walking down the street, looking up, trying to see them but can’t.
I’m now starting to wonder if this guy was playing a joke on me so I would look silly every time I walked along and tried to find them… Turtle recently posted..Don’t cry for me…
I love old buildings like that. There are a lot in Australia, too, as Matthew pointed out. A lot were built after the gold rushes in the mid-1800s where there was a lot of new wealth rolling around.
The buildings were built to last, and were designed with so much attention to detail. Beats a glass and chrome skyscraper any day. Barbara – The Dropout Diaries recently posted..Balloons At Sunrise
I never realized that about Australia until I read Bill Bryson’s book and got lots of great info from Matthew. Definitely hope to visit one day soon! The Travel Chica recently posted..My Biggest Fear: Dental Work in the Third World
