Whoever did the city planning in Buenos Aires was a genius. In many neighborhoods (at least the nicer and wealthier ones), there are lots of tall, beautiful trees. I was lucky to experience the Jacaranda trees blooming this Spring.
I had to share two photos this week because there are just too many Jacaranda trees for one photo.
We have Jacarandas here in Australia too. They grow as far south as Victoria where I live right up into Queensland up north. Originally I thought they were native to Australia simply because of the name and the fact that in parts of the country where I have traveled through they are very common. But in fact they are native to South America and according to Wikipedia at least they are found all over the world from South Africa to Australia to Bhutan and China. I wonder if they have an Eucalypts in Buenos Aires. They are a native tree to Australia and are found in California and in South Africa where they are on ring the outside of a stadium in Johanessburg I believe. To the west of Sydney lie the Blue Mountains. They get their name because the oil from the Eucalypts evaporates into the air causing the mountain range to appear blue. The Blue Mountains are a beautiful place to visit and they have backpacking facilities up there as well. More can be found on the Eucalypts here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eucalyptus and the Blue Mountains here http://www.bluemts.com.au/ .
You’re very lucky to get to see these trees too. I absolutely love them!
I have no clue about Eucalypts in BA… I not really good at identifying trees, plants, flowers, many things

I agree. They’re quite beautiful especially in spring and summer. I must admit I’m not much of a botanist so I wouldn’t expect you to be able to spot a Eucalypt in BA especially considering you’ve probably never come across one before. If you come to Australia you’ll see them everywhere so you’ll get to see them eventually.
The name Eucalipto is very common in Argentina so I guess it’s full of that too. I didnt know that about the jacaranda, neither its name.
I heard former president Peron brought a plant from Australia and it became very common in our land too. I cant find that info online though so I hope I can learn from a historian one day

daniel
Beautiful!

Beautiful shots. In the flats of Beverly Hills (home of many rich and famous) there are some beautiful Jacaranda-lined streets.
Thanks, Phillip. The blooms just “pop” so nicely in photos.

Hey! What are you doing in the nicer and wealthier neighborhoods? Obviously you’ve given up on the search for a great $5 steak!
Nice pictures though. I’m betting we even would have been ok if you tried to sneak in a third one.

I love all the blossoms on the pavement. All the flowering trees are probably spectacular when you’re there amongst them all.

It is one of my favorite things about Buenos Aires.
Oh, jacarandas! I just love them.
In Queensland the jacarandas are in bloom in October and when I was at university, the first purple flowers were usually met with a comment like “oh shit, jacarandas” because they signaled the onset of the end of year exams.

Ha! That definitely would make them a little less pretty.
this is beautiful. it’s just like cherry blossoms, only that this time Barney farted all over it! they should have a Jacaranda festival like they do in tokyo’s Sakura
… Beautiful!

I’m surprised they don’t. They like to have reasons to celebrate and take off work here
Looking at the snow outside my window, I feel a touch of envy when seeing these signs of summer…

It is a bit off for me too to have the seasons switched around.
Yay! I was wondering how these trees were called. Valencia has so many of them too and I love them.

I never knew Jacaranda had such lovely lavender leaves. I like the randomness of leaves on the cobblestone.

In some parts of Buenos Aires, they have done such a nice job incorporating large, beautiful trees and green spaces. I think that is so important for a large, busy city.
Lovely pictures! I especially like the first one. Love it when the ground is covered in flower petals or leaves …
