I was told by Jeff from Career Break Secrets that I had to try the lamb when I got to Patagonia.
So I did.
Cordero Patagónico
I am not sure that I have ever had lamb before.
This was pretty good (one of the few things you can get in Argentina that is not fried and has lots of flavor), but my friend told me that it did not taste anything like the lamb she has eaten in the US.

No, but now I can’t wait to! Though I have tried a few amazing lamb dishes in my day. Holy cow that looks incredible!

Not what I was expecting at all, but it had a lot of flavor.

Could it be that the sheep in Argentina are grass fed like they are in Australia as opposed to being grain feed like the cows are in the United States? If the sheep are also being grain fed in the States that could explain the difference in the taste between US and Argentinian lamb. Grass fed livestock are actually more healthier to eat than their grain fed counterparts but the grain fed ones yield more meat per kilo and represent a better investment to multinational corporations like the ones who control the United States food supply.

I definitely think the preparation is different from the US, at least that is what my dinner companion told me.
Unfortunately, I think Argentina is going away from grass fed livestock.

That’s a Monster! Before I stopped eating meat 5 years ago, lamb was a favorite of mine.

That looks very delicious and also painful to look at when it is 4am in the cold winter morning and nothing is open outside here. XD I think I am going to slip breakfast and have my large lunch meal instead.

I have never eaten Cordero Patagónico, but the only lamb I’ve ever eaten was in a gyro. Does that even count? I almost went with lamb when I visited England with the traditional Sunday Roast, but I went with pork instead!

Ha! I don’t think a gyro counts
You’ll have to figure out how to prepare it in a smoker.

It’s been years since I’ve had lamb. I used to order it in Greek restaurants in Chicago — delicious. Your photo is tempting me to try lamb again soon. Happy New Year, Stephanie!

Never tried Cordero Patagónico, but lamb is eaten quite a lot here in Norway, too. It’s one of the traditional Advent meals and also very common for Easter.
Happy 2012!

Would not have expected to find in lamb in Norway. It is always interesting to see how the same food is prepared in different parts of the world.

I have never tried this particular dish, but I have definitely had lamb before. It’s not a favorite. Although, I would be willing to try this.

We didn’t try enough lamb for my liking in Patagonia and totally missed the magellenic lamb dishes in the very far south…The lamb we did have was at asados and it was delicious. Lamb is one of my favourite dishes. Yours here looks delicious!

I need to try it in another part of Patagonia to see if it is prepared differently. I have a feeling this was rather unique to this specific area.

YOU’D NEVER HAD LAMB BEFORE!
Sometimes I forget the lack of variety that some countries have in their food. In the UK I’ll have beef, pork, chicken, lamb, fish, duck and even venison all in one month.
Really looking forward to the food in Argentina, we are visiting in a month and definately going to be on the look out for the lamb.
