I escaped the flooding desert after a rather miserable bus ride that inexplicably took about 6 hours longer than it should have.
It is good to be back in Argentina.
When the bus crossed the Andes in the north of Argentina, it was after dark, so I could not see much. I just felt the hairpin turns and the struggle of the bus to make the steep incline.
After a few days in Salta, I took a tour that passed back through this region.
This photo was taken in the Jujuy province in the middle of the Andes Mountains very close to the Salinas Grandes (salt flats).
I like the lines in this photo.
Check out more photos of the week from Argentina!
Pretty sure I’ve been on that very same (and isolated) stretch of road! haha 😀

There are about a billion tour companies offering the same exact tour, so I think anyone who has been to Jujuy has been here before. A beautiful place, but I have to admit that I hated this tour. Next time I will rent a car, and when I find a place this gorgeous, I will take as much time as I want to enjoy it

Surprisingly, that looks a lot like my home state of Colorado! Beautiful shot.

Ahh! I’ve been there too. I loved Salta and Jujuy. Can’t wait to read more about it.

I would have loved Salta and Jujuy much more if I had rented a car. This photo was from a 3-minute stop on a large van tour that lasted 12 hours and was spent mostly driving.

Oh bummer! Yeah I went with four other friends and we rented a car, it was a blast. I can’t imagine that road in a van, I probably would have gotten car sick all over everyone! 😛

Gorgeous! Did you take that windy road all the way down?

You know what’s funny… I don’t even know! I wasn’t paying attention to see if this was actually the road we took when we got around the curve.

After dark, hairpin turns, and a bus struggling to climb do not inspire confidence in safety to me. I’m amazed your bus could stay on such a windy road at night.
Glad you were alive to take such a beautiful shot!

The Argentine buses have good reputations for safe driving. The night I crossed this pass, we were moving very, very slowly. I would rather arrive late than that at all! Bolivia and Peru are another story (from what I hear).

I always loved that landscape in Argentina and Chile – beautiful!

I think it would have been about a 4 hour drive without stopping, so you might have had to bring a sleeping bag if you were going on foot
The roads here are actually very good, so it wasn’t so bad.

I love mountains that have mountains behind them in rows like this. With the right light it can look like a surreal 2D drawing. And that road looks like it would be fun to go down on a bicycle 😉
