The grand finale of this tour is taking crazy photos in the middle of the Salar de Uyuni.
But first, let me show you a few “behind the scenes” photos of how the crazy photos are created.
Setting up the shot.
You have to have vision.
You have to have willing participants to stage the shot.
You have to have a good photographer to capture that vision.
I am not even going to tell you what the photo above is supposed to be.
Because it’s wrong.
And I didn’t actually get this shot with my camera.
I will leave it to your imagination.
8 Favorite Photos Playing with Perspective.
If anyone knows anyone that works for Pringles, let them know I am totally open to licensing this photo for their advertising use
Rocklets…. my favorite South American candy.
Yep, I really am a wino.
And I love, love, love my shoes!
Which is your favorite photo?

This is part of a series of photo essays from my tour through the Bolivian Altiplano starting in Tupiza and ending in Uyuni. If you enjoyed these photos, check out these galleries.
- On the Road: Day 1 – Includes the stunning Quebrada de Pilala and El Sillar just outside of Tupiza and the tiny village of San Antonio de Lipez where we interacted with local children.
- On the Road: Day 2 – This was one of my favorite photography days with sights like Laguna Verde, Licancabur Volcano, a natural hot spring, the Sol de Mañana geysers, flamingos, and the gorgeous red waters of Laguna Colorada.
- On the Road: Day 3 – The wonder continued with the Siloli Desert and its famous Piedra de Arbol (Rock Tree), the active Ollague Volcano, the Camino de las Joyas (Path of the Jewels) with multiple lakes and lots more flamingos, and the salt hotel.
- On the Road: Day 4 – We watched a beautiful sunrise over Isla del Pescado, took our crazy photos in the Salar de Uyuni, and then visited the train cemetery in Uyuni.
The Rocklets one is definitely the best. I the stark background sets the colours off awesomely.
The teacup is cool too though.

I think everyone thought I was weird with the Rocklets.
I found the teacup idea by googling for photos. I was proud of that one

The teacup and the wine bottle shots are definitely my favorites!
I LOVE taking silly photos like these, which is why I know I HAVE to go to this place someday!

The wine bottle was definitely the most fun prop to work with.
You get two hours to take photos here on this tour, but it went by so fast!

Hahaha, great photos! I love seeing these silly, funny photos from people’s Salar tours, yet never really thought of what it takes to make them happen. Is it just me or there always seems to be a Pringles there? Love it that you jump “higher” than the car and the photo where you “eat” someone and the one where the Bolivian woman holds you in a hat, though my favorite is probably the colorful candy contrasting the white background.

Our guide is the one who showed us how to jump over the car.
I found the eat someone on a spoon photo on the internet.
And someone else in our group came up with the Bolivian woman holding us in a hat idea.
Seems the ones involving food were all my ideas

This is awesome! My favorites are the one with the spoon and the one of all of you inside the cup!

These are so amazing!!! I love them all, very clever! I literally can’t wait to get to Salar de Uyuni just to take photos like these! hehe Great stuff!
It is a pretty great ending to the tour. It far exceeds expectations. I would even go back, preferably during the rainy season, so I can take a whole different style of photos.

The wine one is by far my favorite. So fitting, so perfect. These photos are all super fun though, I’m jealous I wasn’t there to play!
I was thinking about that shot for so long. It was actually really hard to get, and I was lucky the girl in my group is a good photographer.
I wish you had been there too! It would have been so much more fun

I always love fun pictures from Salar de Uyuni. Yours are some of the best ones I’ve seen. I particularly like that picture of you eating a person with a spoon.

It is certainly fitting. I had to drink the wine the night before too…. that’s dedication to photography (and wine)

What a great collection of photos. The chica in the hat is my favorite; although, the Pringles and wine bottle are close seconds. Good work!

Thanks, Philip. I had fun and appreciated having other creative people around to come with ideas (e.g. the chica in the hat was not my idea).

These pictures are totally awesome, I like the cup, the spoon, and the hat. But, seriously they are all great shots
Thanks, Jason
I have come across nothing but creative and amazing photos from the Salt Flats!! I cannot wait to come up with my own once I set foot here! Love the Pringles, the Bolivian lady, and the vino bottle the best!
Thanks! You’ll have so much fun doing this for yourself. I wish I had spent even more time researching and thinking of ideas.

Fun photos! Some of the best executed Salar de Uyuni pics I’ve seen. Pringles definitely needs to run a contest for you to enter.

As soon as I saw the candy one, I thought “How did she get Smarties down there”? and then you said there were rocklets so I figure it’s the equivalent candy.
By the way, great photos – looks like it was fun.
They’re actually the equivalent of M&Ms (for half the price), and you can find them all over Latin America
