I have to be honest. I wasn’t expecting much of St. Louis.
The Taste of St. Louis exceeded my expectations.
Rease had mentioned some breweries, and I did some research of my own.
Turns out St. Louis has some good beer.
We visited three breweries (yep, in a weekend). Here are my two favorites.
Six Row Brewery
I had just landed in St. Louis, and within a couple of hours it was time for Friday lunchtime beers at Six Row.
Rease and I got tasters so that we could try ALL eight beers on tap. I enjoyed the Douple IPA so much I ordered a glass.
Bottom line: Quality beers and good variety.
Schlafly
Out of the sampler, my faves were the Dry Hopped APA, Kolsch, and Oatmeal Stout. But then I tried Rease’s pumpkin ale, and I had to have one of my own.
I am a huge fan of pumpkin ales, but I am also very picky about them. Schlafly is in my top 3!
We picked up a six pack to take with us.
They have great food too!
The beer bread is a must order for the table.

I’m not a big fan of beer and alcoholic drinks, but the beer bread looks delicious. Does it have a very strong beer smell?

Actually, it doesn’t really taste or smell like beer. It’s just incredibly moist and delicious.

I’m not much into beer but for some reason brewery tours fascinate me. The only one I took in St. Louis was the Budweiser tour, which was a fun touristy thing to do.

I think Schlafly does tours at one of their facilities. I would want to do that next time.

I would love to have tried that pumpkin ale. Too many people are too quick to dismiss beer because you’ve only had the cheap weak stuff. Looks like you found a great treasure trove of good ones, though.

OK, we visited seven distilleries in a day and a half while in Bourbon Country (and tasted at each of them!), so three breweries is not at all bad =) Speaking of…the same group was looking at doing a brewery tour in St. Louis merely due to its proximity to us, so I’m glad it gets your stamp of approval!
