When I wasn’t getting lost in museums and drooling over eggrolls, I was out walking the streets.
(Not like that!)
Walking is my favorite way to explore a city.
Although I had a busy itinerary, I made time every day to walk through a specific neighborhood with no particular goal or destination.
Just wander and observe.
Downtown, Little Italy, Chinatown, SoHo, Nolita, Greenwich Village, Chelsea, Meatpacking District, East Village, Gramercy Park, Midtown East, Upper East Side.
TheTuscan (@AnyLatitude) says
Definitely Midtown to see, and the upper west side for wandering

I recently read that the Upper West side is a great (and often overlooked) area. Will definitely be checking it out next time.

My parents are visiting me in NYC for two weeks. I have been living here just 3 months and so busy I haven’t explored anything yet. Do you have any suggestion to do as a family or itinerary? Thanks
adri recently posted..Mal de muchos….
Stephanie - The Travel Chica says
I think there is a lot that is good to do with the parents. The museums are great… MoMA and The Met would be my top suggestions, and really could take 1/2 day each. The Little Italy and Chinatown food tour is also a good 1/2 day activity. Central Park and the Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center are a must this time of year.
Two weeks is a good amount of time, so I suggest picking a different neighborhood each day to explore and try to plan the activities based on the neighborhood. If I had that much time, I would definitely go to a Broadway show and The Comedy Cellar. I would also probably spend a day in Brooklyn.

New York has so many amazing neighborhoods to just wander around. Greenwich Village and Soho and Chinatown are perhaps some of my favorites, because they’re all quite different!

Nice photos chica! I also love to explore the places by walking around them and just keep starring at buildings, local shops and local people. Like the photo of United States Court building the most, you nicely captured the trees standing in front of it. Is that what winter looks like in NYC?

Cool photos – and I like your approach of making time for aimless wandering very much! In a city like New York especially, you must discover so many quirky subjects to take pictures of when you do that:)!

I’m not a huge fan of NYC, I love nature too much, but I can’t deny that the concrete jungle can be a fascinating place. I visited during the holidays once and they do a damn good job with that. My favorite has to be little Italy getting some Neapolitan pie!
Great photos!
