El Puente de la Mujer
The Women’s Bridge of Puerto Madero is one of the most iconic symbols of Buenos Aires.
The bridge was designed by Spanish engineer Santiago Calatrava. It was built in Spain and brought over in sections, finally completed in 2001.
The 335-foot-long suspension pedestrian bridge is broken into sections. The center was designed to rotate 90 degrees to allow boats to pass although I do not believe it actually functions today.
It is much more than a bridge. It is a work of art.
Its sleek lines evoke the image of a man and woman dancing tango.
The man is embracing the woman who is leaning back horizontally
There are great views of this modern area from the bridge.
The water is not pretty, but the sky is on a sunny day.
The bridge is especially striking when lit up at night.
Planning a trip and want to know more about Buenos Aires?
This month I am highlighting Buenos Aires in celebration of the release of my Buenos Aires City Guide published by Indie Travel Media. I put a lot into this project, and I am proud of the end product. I love this city, and I want anyone who visits to use this guide to create a unique experience and enjoy the best of Buenos Aires.

The bridge is beautiful, and for what I read this week on my way to work, it was a donation from a Spanish immigrant, Alberto Gonzalez, who worked here for more than 60 years. It was a gift from him to the city, impressive, right?
And just in case you wondered, it does move! I work in one of those buildings in the back of your photos and we see the bridge rotating every now and then. I didn’t even knew it moved, but I have seen it more than once now: https://twitter.com/flotadora/status/243347445541638144/photo/1
Nice photos by the way!

Thanks for the info. I read that it was broken, and the city was refusing to pay to fix it. I never saw it move. Guess they worked that out

It’s definitely a work of art. It looks just like the Milwaukee Art Museum. I bet they copied their design from this bridge.

Very modern looking structure.
Nice trivia about the bridge being ‘shipped’ from Spain.

That’s gotta be the coolest pedestrian bridge I’ve ever laid my eyes upon. The night shot is especially striking. Congrats on the Buenos Aires City Guide! Great stuff!

I only saw it for a moment in real life, so it’s nice to see it from various angles here. Jerusalem (Israel) has a similar bridge. Congrats on your book being published – I’m very excited for you!

That is a beautiful bridge, and it is very similar. Thanks for sharing.
With the cold, dreary Ohio winter I’m experiencing right not, I haven’t been out with my camera nearly as much, and I miss it.
