If you read this blog regularly (or even just every once in a while), you know that I love food.
It’s one of my favorite things to experience while traveling, but it is also something I enjoy at home.
A lot of people look at me like I’m crazy when I tell them that Columbus has great food. And I don’t just mean fine dining.
We have something for everyone, including a funky, creative hot dog shop, a deli featured on Man vs. Food, plenty of authentic ethnic food (if you know where to find it), and a variety of mid-range to high-end French, Italian, Spanish, and more.
You know I like to eat good food.
But you also know I stick to a budget.
(After all, I did quit my job and traveled for 20 months.)
Columbus is known for having good food for reasonable prices. But it gets even better for the next ten days.
It’s Dine Originals 10 in Columbus March 11 through March 20.
What is Dine Originals?
Dine Originals is a community of independently owned and operated restaurants in Columbus. Ever since the organization formed, I have taken advantage of their quarterly discounted gift certificate sales. I buy gift certificates at a huge discount to check out new restaurants and also visit my favorites.
When I travel, I prefer to frequent locally owned businesses, and that holds true at home as well. A quote from the Dine Originals website:
For every one hundred dollars you spend in a locally owned business, sixty-eight dollars remains in the community through taxes, payroll and other expenditures vs. forty-three dollars spent in a national chain.
Dine Originals 10 is a celebration of the organization’s 10-year anniversary and a tribute to the city for fostering a vibrant culinary environment.
Why should you participate in Dine Originals 10?
Do you like incredible chefs tasting menus at reasonable prices?
How about a beer dinner at a restaurant with the best beer selection in Columbus?
How about a 3-course meal for $30 at one of the best restaurants in Columbus?
There are meal discounts and special events at over 45 restaurants.
I have eaten at 23 of the restaurants on the list.
Here are a few photos to get your mouth watering.

I love these kind of ‘restaurant weeks’ – we used to have something similar in Melbourne.

We have another organization that does restaurant weeks quarterly. Lots of great opportunities to eat great food and try out new restaurants while not blowing too much money.

It has been a while but I remembered Columbus as kind of an Ironcity and Burger kind of town. This looks amazing! I am hoping to be able to make it “Taste of Chicago” when I am in the US this summer. Looks like Columbus is coming around!

I would say there has been a lot of progress in the “culinary scene” in Columbus in the past 5 years. You’ll have to come back and see what you think.

Delicious, the Pistacia Vera reminds me of Danish pastries, does it taste similar?

It’s French. I’m not familiar with Danish pastries, but I imagine there are some similarities. All I know is that they are fresh-baked and delicious

I’m not a huge meat consumer but whatever that flesh is in the “Tip Top”, I’d bite into it as it looks to be roasted to perfection. The bread looks sweet. Take a bit of sweet potato fries to go with that and you’ve probably got a taste euphoria combo going on.

Pot roast on a pretzel bun. It is absolute perfection. And they have the best sweet potato fries I have ever had.
