On my way back from the gorgeous Oregon Coast, I had time to stop at one vineyard in Willamette Valley.
Two Portlanders suggested I visit Archery Summit for the beautiful views. While this is my only experience in Willamette Valley so far, it is hard to imagine it could get any better.
Archery Summit
Pinot noir is not my favorite because I find it too light-bodied. My time in Argentina influenced my preferences for full-bodied, complex wines with strong tannins.
Luckily, I picked the right vineyard in Willamette Valley for my tastes. The sommelier told me that Archery Summit is actually known for making a more full-bodied pinot with bold tannins.
Beautiful views, great wine, and it’s less than an hour drive from Portland.

If you’re at all interested in beer, the Willamette Valley is also home to some of the biggest suppliers of hops in the U.S. When I used to work at a small craft brewery here in Maine, we got most of our hops from Williamette Valley.
Though I’ve never visited, it looks beautiful. Those barrels may see life after wine to help condition some craft beer!

I am a huge fan of craft beer, and it is one of the things I love about Portland. I took a beer tour with Brewvana my first time in Portland last year, and they talked about how all of the ingredients to make great beer are right there and super fresh.

My first trip was only four nights in Portland. It was overwhelming. This trip was nine days, and while I still would have liked more time, that gave me enough time to enjoy the city and also take a couple of day trips and spend a couple of days on the coast.
