My home city Columbus recently hosted an art exhibit that really lived up to the hype and also directly tied into recent “Photography 101” night photography posts on my website.
Bruce Munro: Light
Bruce Munro’s Light features ten light-based installations both indoors and outdoors at one of my favorite places in Columbus Franklin Park Conservatory.
The pieces are beautiful, mesmerizing, and playful.
I set up my tripod early just as the sun was starting to set. Another tip about night photography is to take multiple photos over a period of a few hours (or go back to the same spot at different times of night) because the sky changes so much.
This was the perfect place to practice night photography.
I wrote tips about the importance of light and color in night photography before I took any of these shots. As I was editing these, I kept thinking back to that post (and patting myself on the back of course).
This is the type of art that you can enjoy for hours, wandering around to see it from different viewpoints and watching it change before your eyes. It is the type of art you want to go back and see again (which I did).
This was my favorite photo from the night.

I really appreciated this article because my wife and I are planning a trip to Honolulu. I’ve never been there before, so we’re trying to figure out what things are fun to do. I too am excited for the food, and the opportunity to find places to eat at. Thanks for sharing this!
