The Explore the Elements photo contest is sponsored by Thomas Cook Travel and seeks to find images that best represent the four elements of earth, water, fire and air. I was happy to be nominated by travel photographer Jonathan Look. If you’re not familiar with his website LifePart2, you should check it out for snippets of life abroad and beautiful, interesting photos.
You can follow the contest at http://www.thomascook.com/blog/holiday-competitions-deals/explore-the-elements/ or #ExploreTheElements.
Air
Watching the Andean condors soar just above my head, I felt free. These other living creatures were free, moving and expanding in the open space. This is one of those photos that requires a bit of luck, but I have found that luck is most likely to come with practice and patience.
Earth
This rocky landscape represents more than the solid, hard surface. The many rock piles also demonstrate the stubbornness and physicality of the people who took on this challenge.
Fire
On the island of Ometepe in Nicaragua, this active and perfectly formed volcano was constantly reminding me of the energy and power of nature. Always moving and evolving our world.
Water
The Perito Moreno Glacier is stunning and overwhelming. Even though ice is considered the solid form of water, this glacier is moving and changing and adapting.
As part of the contest, I am supposed to choose other travel bloggers whose work I admire. It is the last day of the contest, so they won’t actually be able to participate. But I will share my nominations, so you can check out the work of these great photographers.
