When I was choosing a city within a short train ride from Amsterdam where I could balance exploring and relaxing for a week, many suggestions were made. What sold me on Ghent is that it has the charm and picturesque canals of the famous Bruges, but it’s a “real city” where people live and work and is the home of a large university student population. It’s not just a tourist attraction.
Picturesque Canals of Ghent
The canals feel like an essential character in my story of Ghent. I was staying at an AirBnB that was on a little island in the middle of a canal. The canals became my navigation tools, as well as the cause of getting lost. They provided an incredible (and wonderfully distracting) view for my morning runs. And so many inspiring photography opportunities.
