Bismar, the guide from my Breakfast at the Farm Tour, is a master at spotting wild animals.
As we drove through the vast property of Morgan’s Rock, he talked about the families of monkeys and sloths living in the trees around us.
I had seen about a million monkeys on this Nicaragua trip. While it is still exciting to spot one in the wild, especially if there’s a baby with the family, the excitement wears off quickly. (Perhaps I am becoming a jaded traveler.)
But a sloth?
That would be freaking awesome!
I saw a sloth once in Panama (supposedly). It looked like a small ball of fur high up in a tree. A tour guide told me it was a sloth, but honestly, it could have been anything.
I told Bismar we must see a sloth.
He claimed his expertise in spotting them in these trees and all but promised we would see one. I was filled with anticipation.
I was sitting in the back of a truck with Deb and Dan, a couple from Colorado, staring up in the trees. We had our D-SLRs ready to go.
Bismar yelled for the driver to stop.
There it was… a giant sloth up in the trees.
I had no idea sloths grow so large. I could see it’s nose. I could see it’s claws wrapped around the tree branches. And this one wasn’t just curled up in a ball sleeping.
It was actually moving!
Moving slowly, but much faster than I would have expected.
There you have it. My coolest wild animal sighting to date.
great hair
I think the greasy look works.

My mother used to call me a sloth when I wouldn’t get out of bed. Rare photo of one on the move, and lovely ones at that.
I had some sloth-like moments when it came to waking up early for school too![:-)](https://www.thetravelchica.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/simple-smile.png)

This sloth looks related to chewbacca from the movie Star Wars.
My coolest wild animal sighting was a band of wild Mustang horses from the Little Book Cliffs herd near Grand Junction, Colorado.

That’s pretty awesome! I have never seen a sloth before!
Aww.. they are weirdly cute. I was equally excited when I saw my first Koala in Australia. They are similarly useless but cuddly looking creatures!

What a great experience. I had a glimpse of Macaques in the rainforest of North Sulewesi and it was a blessing. Wish I could’ve had a better idea of the scale of your sloth but the pictures were great.
